Youth Educational Support  

            The Youth Educational Support (Y.E.S.) Program seeks to provide an environment where Hmong elementary students from participating St. Paul elementary schools come after school for academic enrichment, social and moral skills development, and spiritual nourishment, serving as servant of Jesus Christ.

Youth Educational Support Provides:
·           Homework help for Hmong students grades K-6 after school
·           Faith based Character Building Lessons that help develop strong moral and ethical characters
·           Intentional activities to encourage positive relationship building includes:
o   Character Building Lessons
o   Organized group games/crafts/activities
o   Tutoring sessions
o   Program Family Functions
o   Educational/recreational Fieldtrips

Youth Educational Support Program Time:
·           Y.E.S. Program: October 11, 2009- May 26, 2010
o   Monday-Thursday homework help from 4:30 PM- 6:00 PM

Youth Educational Support Program Currently Serving:
·           Students enrolled for Fall 2010: 63 students (32 students Mon/Wed & 31 students Tue/Thurs)

Youth Educational Support Program Expectations of Volunteers:
·           Attending the day/s that you have signed up for (call the Program Director if you are not able to make it ahead of time)
·           Volunteer arrival time is 4:15 to greet the students and spend free time with them (lead them in crafts or group activities)
·           Having the passion and compassion to help the students succeed in life

Youth Educational Support Program Needs:
·           1 full time staff for every 30 students (currently we have 1 ½ staff for 60 plus students)
·           Ratio of 1 tutor per 2 students (15 tutors per night; currently we have 1 volunteer per 4 students)
·           Drivers (at least two per tutoring session is ideal)
·           Mentors for one-on-ones outside of tutoring time
·           Volunteers who would be willing to serve once per week to four times a week
·           Volunteers who can commit to a semester of school (First Semester: October to December, Second Semester: January to the last week of May) or a full year of school
·           Volunteers who would be willing to provide snacks.
